I was able to load Apple's Boot Camp without a hitch. The MacBook Pro 17-inch just has one processor configuration: the Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16 GHz), but as the fastest Intel dual-core processor available, it's all you'll need for speed and power.
I recommend going with the faster hard drive, though, for the sake of performance. You can also opt for a 120GB hard drive running at 5,400 rpm at no additional cost. A zippy 7,200-rpm, 100GB hard drive provides plenty of storage space. The built-in optical drive is a DVD+R dual-layer burner, and it has double the recording speed of the 15-inch (8X versus 4X). The MacBook 17-inch doesn't have a VGA port, but you can get a dongle converter for the system's existing DVI-I port. You'll find several features here that you won't find on the 15-inch model, such as a FireWire 800 connection and three USB ports (instead of two). iLife includes iPhoto, a very good photo editor iMovie HD for video editing GarageBand to take care of audio editing and iWeb for simple web publishing. Typing on the MacBook is comfortable it has the same responsive touchpad as the Apple PowerBook 17-inch, You can scroll up, down, left, and right by applying two fingers to the touchpad. In fact, Apple recommends-and I quote-"Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods." The palm rests felt relatively cool to me compared with the system's base. Nonetheless, the base below the keyboard is still too hot by my standards. There's more surface area on the MacBook 17-inch to dissipate heat, so it doesn't get as hot as the 15-inch model.
